Although his family traveled a lot because his father was a minister, he lived most of his younger years in Texas. He has a brother and two adopted sisters, and was married to Bonnie Mitchell in the late '70's. After quitting high school in his senior year, Bud Malmstrom joined the US Marine Corps and was on active duty in (1969-1973), where he received three meritorious promotions and was discharged as an E-5 sergeant. After receiving his GED while on active duty, he went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in accounting from Georgia State University in 1980. In 1992, Mr. Malmstrom attended the Public Safety Training Institute and became a P.O.S.T. certified police officer in Georgia, as well as a certified police instructor of Defensive Tactics, Mechanics of Arrest, and Firearms. After completing the training, Bud has been a Reserve Police Officer with Conyers Police Department since February 1993. He graduated from the Executive Protection Institute in Virginia in 1995 and received his credentials as a certified Executive Protection Specialist. Since that time Bud has been the detail leader and an agent for details domestically and abroad. In 1992 he was invited to join the President's Council on Physical Fitness in Atlanta representing Law Enforcement and Martial Arts and subsequently accepted. Further, Mr. Malmstrom was and assistant instructor in training a Navy SEAL team in wilderness survival. He is Basic SWAT qualified and was lead instructor for a course on Immediate Takedowns during dynamic entry of SWAT teams. Bud is also a Surefire Institute certified instructor of "Officer Survival in Low-Light Conditions". As a member of the Tactical Tracking (for fugitive retrieval) team of OSI Special Investigations and Consulting Group, Bud Malmstrom is also an instructor of the CQBRS (pronounced cobras) Defensive Tactics Instructor Corps. Bud has assisted in teaching Federal, State, and local agencies, rural fugitive tracking and use of tracking for gathering evidence at crime scenes. Mr. Malmstrom has provided surveillance and participated in intrastate fugitive retrieval with OSI. Bud Malmstrom was OSI's team leader for a group that was at Ground Zero from September 14-19, 2001 to help in the rescue after the World Trade Center attacks. He is also a certified instructor of the Silent Universal Signals as is being taught to law enforcement, fire and rescue units and school systems. For two years, Mr. Malmstrom was also the Director of Security for an international precious metals company, Premetco, LLC, which had offices in Atlanta, Georgia and Ghana, Africa.
