kevin-shodanIn December of 1990 Mr. Millis and his father were honored with the Bujinkan Golden Dragon Award by Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi for their contributions to the Bujinkan Dojo with their inception and worldwide distribution of the Bujin Newsletter. Mr. Millis has been awarded the Presidential Sports Award of Excellence by former United States President William Clinton for his contributions to physical fitness and health awareness and has also studied and worked to become an expert technical rock climber, PADI Master scuba diver, Divemaster, published artist and writer.

Kevin Millis was born April 13th, 1956 and began his martial arts training with high school wrestling in 1972 and continued with the methods of Kung Fu San Soo, a northern Chinese system. Mr. Millis was then introduced to Bruce Lee's Jun Fan Gung Fu / Jeet Kune Do along with Wing Chun Kung Fu and the concepts of the Philippine and Indonesian Martial Arts. Mr. Millis holds the black belt equivalent of achievement in Jun Fan Gung Fu / Jeet Kune Do awarded personally by Sifu Steven Tarani.

kevin-hatsumiContinuing his search for personal excellence Mr. Millis entered training with legendary Bujinkan Shidoshi Stephen K. Hayes. Shidoshi Hayes was responsible for guiding and generously introducing Mr. Millis to Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi, the current Soke of the nine ryuha that comprise the Bujinkan Dojo system. Noted among his vast achievements, Dr. Hatsumi is the 34th linear Grandmaster of the oldest surviving school of combat strategy in the world. Mr. Millis has been personally graded by Dr. Hatsumi for each Bujinkan rank he holds and continues to study under Dr. Hatsumi's benevolent guidance traveling to Japan for ongoing study, observation and reflection.

kevin-seno-noguchiBorn on the battlefield, bujutsu or the "warrior arts" were developed during a time when each individual either lived or died using his personal martial arts, healing or survival skills. Accepting the seriousness of this unforgiving and hostile environment, it was clearly obvious that total development and refinement of one's self were absolutely necessary for continued survival. Self-reliance was a fact of everyday life not to be dismissed or ignored without paying the most serious of penalties. Many things have changed over the numerous years of human development but one thing remains the same. Our world continues to be a dangerous, primitive and unpredictable challenge and the need for self-protection in its many forms still remains.

kevin-soke-nagatoThe Bujinkan Dojo is the collective name given by our Soke, Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi to the nine historical systems of authentic battlefield and espionage arts that comprise our method. As historians now note, these ancient strategies as old as Japan itself and used by both the legendary ninja and the samurai knights, were based on actual experiences in mortal combat. With the knowledge of a thousand years of struggle, the Bujinkan system is a martial art proven in battle and still keenly viable today. Perfect for our ever changing modern society, ideal for both women and men our universally scientific and strategy based methods teach people to defend themselves without having to depend solely on one's youth, speed or physical strength.

Our purpose is to impart the ancient secrets of combat and higher personal development of self while preserving a unique martial arts tradition. The methods we study are the same as those practiced in the ageless mountains of Japan and our mission is teaching people how to defend themselves while introducing them to our tradition of mystery, dignity and personal power. We invite you to experience these timeless, esoteric teachings as we strive to preserve and pass on this once secret art to each individual with personal attention, realism and detail.

kevin-nagato-ishizukaMr. Millis' collective pursuits and purposes also include the energetic, healing and life sustaining methods of Hoshinjutsu. Mr. Millis has received both Godan and Shihans licenses from the Hoshin Roshi Ryu and was presented with these honors personally by Dr. Glenn J. Morris Ph. D.,D.Sc. founder and first Soke of the Hoshin Ryu Dojo. Dr. Morris is now a member in perpetuity of The World Head of Family & Sokeship Council and the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame. Mr. Millis has been involved in these esoteric arts as a student of the late Soke Dr. Morris since 1987.

Commissioned by Dr. Hatsumi in 1987 to establish the first Bujinkan Dojo in Southern California, Mr. Millis has taught the martial arts to thousands of people, from all walks of life for more than two decades. Along with lecturing and conducting national and international workshops, Mr. Millis continues that commission leading instructional seminars, supporting the Bujinkan Dojo International and learning institutions worldwide.
