After starting training in 1986, Tim Bathurst made his first trip to Japan in 1990 at the age of 21. On personal invitation by the Grandmaster himself, Tim moved to Japan in 1997 where he lived and studied under the Masters for 8 years. He one of the few people to have received his Master (Shihan) licence while living in Japan. If you’ve visited Japan in the last few years, you would have seen Tim translating in the dojo for the Masters.

Apart from more than 20 years experience in the Bujinkan, Tim also has extensive travel and adventure experience. Having climbed peaks in the Himalayas and South American Patagonia as well as rock climbing throughout Europe, Asia and Australia.

Travel has given him the opportunity to study a great deal about cultures from all over the world including learning Japanese and Spanish.

Tim has returned to live in Australia to pass the wealth of knowledge and experience he has accumulated over the last 13 years of world travels.

In the dojo he leads by example, showing not only the form and technique but also the feeling that is so important in understanding the Art.

The Bujinkan Dojo is the name of the school headed by 34th Grandmaster Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi. The school teaches the arts of the Samurai as well as the philosophy popularly described as Ninjutsu.

The Bujinkan Dojo is the product of hundreds of years of Martial experience. Japan’s history produced hundreds of schools of fighting arts; few however have stood the test of time to survive to the present day. We are lucky that several of these schools are still taught today by the present Grandmaster, Dr. Hatsumi.

More than merely fighting skills, the training of the Bujinkan challenges the students to learn the skills of life, of living in harmony with nature and the balance that allows them to protect justice and to persevere with a compassionate heart.

Training in the Bujinkan Bathurst Dojo is based on teaching students practical skills with achievable results. Training is conducted in safe, controlled conditions while teaching students practical techniques. Moreover, the correct attitude and focus are developed to give students a well rounded range of skills and character.
